Sedation Dentist in Fort Mill, SC

Combine Multiple Treatments Into One Calm, Comfortable Visit

Get Your Dental Work Done in One Visit Instead of Four

If you live in Fort Mill, your weekdays are probably already full. Between the Charlotte commute, school pickup at places like Fort Mill Elementary or Nation Ford, and the time it takes to actually get across town during rush hour, splitting a treatment plan across four separate dental appointments is a real problem. That is one of the main reasons Fort Mill patients come to Falko Family Dental for sedation dentistry. Sedation lets us safely complete several procedures in a single longer visit, so you spend less total time in the chair and fewer days rearranging your schedule.

Dr. Klaudia Falkovsky, DMD and Dr. Andrew Falkovsky, DMD are a husband and wife dental team trained in nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, and IV sedation. We help you choose the level of sedation that fits your treatment plan, your medical history, and how much chair time you want to handle in one sitting.

How Sedation Turns Four Appointments Into One

Without sedation, longer dental visits get split up because most people cannot comfortably sit through three or four hours of work in one go. Jaw fatigue, anxiety, gag reflex, and back pain all push appointments shorter. With sedation, those limits relax. A patient who would normally need separate visits for a deep cleaning, two fillings, a crown prep, and an extraction can often have all of it done in one block.

That matters most for patients who have been putting off care. A typical Fort Mill new patient who has avoided the dentist for several years often needs a deep cleaning plus several restorative procedures. Splitting that across five or six visits is what causes most people to give up halfway through. Sedation removes that obstacle.

Sedation Levels We Offer at Falko Family Dental

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

The lightest option. You stay fully awake and able to respond, but you feel calmer and time passes faster. Nitrous wears off within a few minutes after we turn it off, so you can drive yourself home and go back to your day. Good for patients who feel mild nervousness or who want help getting through a longer cleaning or filling.

Oral Conscious Sedation

A pill taken before your visit. You stay awake but deeply relaxed, and most patients remember very little of the appointment afterward. You will need someone to drive you to and from the office. Good for moderate anxiety, longer procedures, or patients who do not want IV access.

IV Sedation

Sedation medication is delivered through a vein for fast, predictable, and adjustable effect. You stay responsive but in a deeply relaxed twilight state. We monitor your breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure throughout. Good for severe anxiety, strong gag reflex, complex procedures, or anyone wanting to combine several treatments into a single long visit.

All four levels of dental sedation (minimal, moderate, deep, and general anesthesia) are defined and regulated by the American Dental Association and require specific training and state permits to administer. You can read the ADA's overview of sedation and anesthesia at ada.org under their Oral Health Topics section.

Procedures We Routinely Combine Under Sedation

  • Multiple fillings in one quadrant or across the mouth
  • Crown preparations and same-day cementations
  • Extractions, including wisdom teeth
  • Deep cleanings (scaling and root planing) for periodontal disease
  • Root canal therapy
  • Dental implant placement
  • Full-mouth restorative work, including All-on-4 cases
  • Smile makeovers involving multiple veneers or bonding

Who Sedation Dentistry Helps Beyond Anxious Patients

Most people associate sedation only with severe dental phobia, but it is useful for several other situations Fort Mill patients describe to us:

  • A strong gag reflex that makes impressions, X-rays, or back-tooth work difficult
  • TMJ pain that makes holding the mouth open for an hour painful
  • Difficulty getting numb fully with local anesthesia alone
  • Special healthcare needs that make standard appointments stressful
  • A treatment plan that simply cannot fit into multiple weekday visits

Meet Your Sedation Dentists

Falko Family Dental is a husband and wife practice run by Dr. Klaudia Falkovsky, DMD and Dr. Andrew Falkovsky, DMD. Both doctors handle sedation cases.

Dr. Klaudia Falkovsky, DMD

Dr. Klaudia earned her DMD from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. Before dental school, she completed a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where she contributed to oral biology research that produced two peer-reviewed publications: one in Nature and one in Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy.

Her path into healthcare started in high school. As a senior at Health Professions High School, she trained as an emergency medical technician (EMT), responding to live calls and learning patient monitoring, airway support, and emergency response. Those fundamentals are the same ones used to monitor a sedated dental patient today: heart rate, breathing, oxygenation, and response to change.

In dental school, Dr. Klaudia was inducted into the Gamma Pi Delta Prosthodontic Honor Society, was a member of the Aesthetic Dental Society, received the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) award, and was a three-time recipient of the Michael J. Kosloski Foundation scholarship. Her community work included annual oral cancer walks and screenings, the Brush Up Newark school program teaching children about oral health, and a VIDA dental mission providing care in remote areas of Costa Rica.

Dr. Klaudia is a member of the South Carolina Dental Association (SCDA), International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI), Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), and American Dental Association (ADA).

Outside the office, Dr. Klaudia hikes, camps, and snowboards with her husband Dr. Andrew and their son Jacob.

Dr. Andrew Falkovsky, DMD

Dr. Andrew is a member of the South Carolina Dental Association (SCDA), American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), and American Dental Association (ADA).

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be unconscious during sedation?

No. With nitrous oxide and oral sedation you stay fully awake. With IV sedation you stay responsive but in a deep twilight state. None of these are general anesthesia. You will breathe on your own throughout.

Is sedation dentistry safe for older patients?

Sedation is safe for most healthy adults of any age, but we adjust the level and the drugs used based on age, medications, and medical history. Patients with sleep apnea, certain heart conditions, or who take blood thinners need extra screening before we proceed.

Do I need a referral to come in for sedation?

No. You can call our office directly at (803) 324-3277 to schedule a sedation consultation.

Will I need someone to drive me?

For nitrous oxide alone, no. For oral conscious sedation and IV sedation, yes. The medications stay in your system for several hours, and we will not release you to drive yourself home.

How long does sedation take to wear off?

Nitrous oxide clears within a few minutes. Oral sedation can leave you drowsy for 4 to 8 hours. IV sedation typically clears within a few hours but residual sleepiness can last most of the day. Plan to rest after the appointment.
